Abraham and Lot: A tale of two families

In this series of 4 audio messages, Brian Watts challenges us to think about how to raise our kids. Lot chose to raise his in the City – and it proved to be a disaster. Abraham raised his in the wilderness – and it worked.

Where did Lot go wrong, and what did Abraham do right?

Christian parents face many fears as they try to shield their children from the influences of the world and live in the apparent seclusion of the Christian community. In this series Brian seeks to allay those fears. God’s blessing rests on families raised God’s way, and the world’s alternatives prove to be deadly.

1. Lot – how not to raise a godly family. Part 1 – 27 minutes

Lot looked at the city and it seemed like a great place to raise his kids. He was a righteous man, but being righteous was not enough. His family was lost. What went wrong?

2. Lot – how not to raise a godly family. Part 2 – 32 minutes

Lot thought he could change the world and save his family, but he failed on both fronts. What did he do wrong? Where did it all end up?

3. Abraham – how to raise a godly family. Part 1 – 32 minutes

Surely living in the seclusion of the wilderness is the worst place to raise a family. Where will my children find friends? Won’t my children miss out if they don’t get a proper education? Will my children be able to cope with the real world when they have been shielded from it for years? Abraham’s story answers our fears.

4. Abraham – how to raise a godly family. Part 1 – 38 minutes

Surely living in the seclusion of the wilderness is the worst place to raise a family. Won’t my children rebel in an atmosphere of restrictions? Won’t my kids be bored if they are isolated from what everybody else is doing? Where will my children find a spouse? Abraham’s story answers our fears.
